Production Blog: Final Touches
Last blog I described how we finished the needed editing requirements for our film. We were going to stop there but as we watched our film back it was very boring and bland. Alyssa and I mutually agreed that we needed more editing tricks to spice up our movie. Unfortunately we had no idea what editing we should do. I thought about adding a hold film tv filter, but it looked really tacky so I restored it back the original. Alyssa and I were stumped so we asked some of our friends if they had any ideas. We asked about 3 of our friends and they all has the same suggestion, turning off the music when we were talking. I don't understand how we missed this while editing but thankfully it was caught. Since all of the editing was done on Alyssas phone we shared her screen to me so I could see what was going on. We had no idea how to spilt the music in to accommodate the talking sections. We were using a different site because they had more editing tools for free but it was so confusing. To save time I looked it up online and found a step by step. We followed that and were able to fix this issue in about 10 minutes. There was one scene though where sirens were going off in the background and we wanted to highlight these diegetic sounds. We wanted to do this because we thought it fit the theme of our film about a kidnapping. This could create suspense because it leaves the viewer thinking maybe the sirens are looking for the mysterious man beefier he makes another attack. To enhance the sirens we increased the volume of just that clip. This worked pout perfectly because this scene had little talking so it wouldn't startle or hurt the ears of the watchers. Most of the suggestions from our friends were about the music. One friend said that at the end of our video, when the neighbor is on the phone with 911, we should add a suspenseful tone instead of the action music we already had inserted. They said that the music should be dark and subtle beats that slowly fade out as the film comes to the end. After fixing our audio issues we came to the conclusion that we should just leave our video sort of bland because there wasn't much we could do without making it look to childish. The music however did add the extra spice we needed and made the video much more entertaining to watch as it triggered specific feelings within the viewer.
