Genre Decision

Hey guys, welcome to my blog! Today I will be choosing what genre I will use for my final task!

1. Horror Genre

Elements of the Horror Genre that I like are that the films have goriness and create fear. I also like that when a jump scare is about to occur, you can prepare yourself when you start to hear the ominous music. Elements of the Horror Genre that I don't like are that they make the characters extraordinarily clueless, like when they hear a sound and run right toward it. I also don't like how many horror films have a slow start, which bore me and makes me not want to continue watching. For my final task, making a horror film would be difficult to do because while the producers of horror films like It and The Shining have millions of dollars to work with, we don't. It would also be hard to use special effects makeup and include weapons without interfering with our safety.

2. Thriller Genre

Elements of the Thriller Genre that I like are that they create suspense and tension by zooming in on emotion during high-stake scenarios. Another element I like about thrillers is that their quick pace keeps the audience on their toes, making them want to watch more. The last element I like about thrillers is that they have exciting plots, which keep the audience intrigued and entertained throughout. Some common camera angles found in thrillers include High Angles, which isolate the character and make them vulnerable. Another common camera angle is Dutch Angles, which portrays madness, unease, and frantic actions. Making a thriller for our final task would be achievable because we can use the settings and lights around us to portray a dark and mysterious background.

3. Romance Genre

Elements of the Romance Genre that I like are that it's common for them to have a happy ending, and they are centered on a love story. When considering the aspects of the Romance genre, there are a lot of benefits that we could use in our film. Emphasizing a relationship between two characters could better drive the plot and give reasonable warrant for our protagonist's actions. Along with this the typical setting of the Romance genre is in urban areas which correlate with our natural location. However, the overall mood of the Romance genre is more upbeat and excited, which could contrast with our intended mood of a more serious plot.

After researching and learning more about 3 different genres, we have chosen to make our opening sequence in the Thriller Genre! It is the most convenient because we have access to many resources like open parks and fields that could be used as the perfect setting. We also intend on making our short film full of suspense and tension, which we can efficiently do when making a thriller.

That's all for today! Stay tuned to find out what movies we decide to research in the Thriller genre!
